Dance

I write tonight, and for the first time, I write because I want to, not because I have to. I WANT to tell you. Words are having a party in my heart, or maybe in my head. I can’t exactly tell at the moment I’m sorry but it’s so loud, they’re so loud. They’re dancing, singing, drinking & jumping around. Perhaps they’ll go silent in an hour, or twenty four or maybe in a week or much more, but tonight, they’re happy. Tonight, they celebrate the beauty & wonder that is them. And assuredly unbothered, tonight, I stay up with them, to gaze & admire.

The Beautiful Eyes of a Stranger

For the few seconds when their eyes met, time froze. Making those seconds longer than they actually were. She had just adjusted the the strap of her handbag & lifted her eyes so that they’d coincidently fall on his. A complete stranger with beautiful brown eyes. ‘Kind eyes’ she thought. Everything else was a blur. Her eyes were fixated on his. The short time that had elapsed wasn’t enough for her to learn more about this person. Not enough time for her to get to know what she might hate or fall in love with. Just enough time to give her something to think about with joy for a few more minutes after leaving her sight & before getting distracted with the life around her. It felt as if both of their souls floated & got suspended in midair, away from the crowd & the noise, giving them freedom & space. They exchanged smiles, silently greeted each other with ‘Hi’ & acknowledged some sort of mutual affection to one another. Not love, not hate, but something. Something that was less than like & more than indifference. Then, not ‘in a few words or more’ but none at all, they said their goodbyes.
